South Ayrshire Wedding Maureen Du Preez

It’s a real pleasure to be sharing the stunning South Ayrshire wedding of Eilidh and Cameron who were married on the 18th August 2018 at Dalduff Farm in Scotland. Their day was low-waste with sustainable consideration, an ethos I am really on board with. Not only was their day eco-friendly but it was totally beautiful.

The natural vibes were enhanced by the abundance of greenery everywhere, it looked so lush and pretty. Opting for a weekend wedding maximised the celebration time, something they recommend in the advice section of their report below. Keep your eyes peeled for a stunning bouquet, stylish outfits and a lot of happy times.

Oh so special. Maureen du Preez thank you so much for sharing these marvellous images with us.

The Proposal

Cammy proposed to me while we were in Berlin during the summer of 2016, in a Photoautomat (an old fashioned B&W photograph machine)! After spending the full weekend stressing about when and where to do it he decided to go for it at the very last opportunity – the night before we were due to come home. Unfortunately, we had seen a massive street fight just minutes before and I was really shaken up so he suggested jumping into the Photoautomat to brighten up the mood.

Initially, I said no as was too shaken by what we’d just witnessed but for some weird reason, I decided to go back. We got in and just before the first flash went off he pulled out the ring! Cue photos of me looking extremely happy!

The Vision

We wanted something which was focused on celebrating our love with our family and friends, that was organic and natural and not too wedding-y. Lots of muted, natural colours and materials, with plenty of amazing booze, food and music over the weekend! It was really important to us that the wedding was low waste, and that we were conscious of our environmental impact at every stage.

The Planning Process

A few months after getting engaged we went travelling around South America for 6 months. Before jetting off we viewed and confirmed the venue, booked our celebrant and asked our wedding party to be part of our big day! We then went off travelling and didn’t really think too much about it for a while. Things really went into fifth gear when we got back but what was most important to us was that everyone had fun!

Budget

Not exactly sure, think around £20K.

The Venue

Dalduff Farm – I wanted somewhere that felt special and local and that allowed us to have a weekend-long party. We needed it to be flexible and somewhere we could do our own thing – Dalduff was absolutely perfect. Jenny and James were so helpful and made our time there unbelievably special. The fact it was across the field from where I used to keep my horses was an added bonus!

They allowed us to host our whole wedding party in the field behind the farm in yurts which, as we were there for the weekend, gave it full-on festival vibes!

As a farm shop, they also catered the whole event and the food was delicious – I’ve had so many compliments since!

Your Outfits & Accessories

Dress and veil from Opus Couture – it was the first dress I looked at on the rail and tried on so obviously knew it was the one for me! The dress was fairly simple as I’m not a massive fan of anything OTT – classic white hourglass shape with a beautifully intricate long train. I added a long veil too as loved the drama of walking down the aisle with my face semi-covered to reveal all at the bottom!

Shoes from Topshop – white pointed slingbacks with a medium heel. I have worn them quite a few times since the wedding day :)

The groom got his tailored tartan trousers from Slaters Menswear and his tweed waistcoat and jacket, shirt, tie and shoes from Walker Slater.

Beauty

Hair by friends (who work at the Rainbow Room) Meg and Eilidh.

Beauty by friend Mandy Stobo and her colleague Cara.

Groomsmen

We really wanted the bridesmaids and groomsmen to get outfits that they would wear again. We hated the thought that they would be worn once and shoved under a bed – the antithesis of low waste! So we encouraged them all to purchase an outfit they would love and re-wear over and over again.

Cammy had all of his best friends and his brother.

Bridesmaids

I had four best pals plus Cammy’s two sisters and my own sister.

The Readings & Music

Music is really important to us both individually and as a couple so we probably spent most time fretting about it being perfect!

Rusty’s Piano Bar played some beautiful music during our ceremony: Bette Midler’s The Rose as I walked down the aisle, I Would Die for You by the one and only Prince as we came back up it together, and lots of beautiful music while we celebrated during our drinks reception!

Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell was our first dance – an emotive classic that we knew would stand the test of time. We then had a local Ceilidh band play some brill Scots tunes while we got all hot and sweaty Ceilidh dancing. Our friend Dennis rounded off the rest of the night playing our fave songs from across the decades on his decks.

Readings were kept minimal – while we drank from the Quaich (a symbolic Scottish tradition) Cammy’s brother Jamie read a short unnamed Scottish poem.

By the way have you seen our first dance song inspiration?

The Flowers

A beautiful mixture of local flowers put together by family friend Jenny Mugford at FlowerMug. She made an amazing pampas grass feature which hung above us at the dinner ceremony.

The Cake

A delicious three-tiered cake made up of red velvet, lemon and poppy seed. Kindly made by one of my best friends.

The Details & Décor

I hated the idea of there being a theme and was really keen for it to be as natural and low impact as possible so there was a lot of greenery, natural colours and homemade stuff!

The majority of the wedding was held in a 200-year-old barn so we really just allowed that to shine. I brought a lot of plants from our house to decorate the barn and our florist foraged on the morning of the wedding and worked her magic with lots of different shades and textures.

I had spent the previous year sourcing second-hand various brass candlesticks which we used as semi centrepieces. Place cards were made of botanical prints folded in half with the names punched on with a label maker.

The favours were a homemade raspberry gin (which we were all swigging by the end of the night!). Our table names were named after musicians we loved: Diana Ross, Prince, Rod Stewart etc. Cammy made a light box that said ‘This Must Be the Place’ plus we had a whisky and polaroid station. We’ve lent a lot of our wedding stuff out to a few of our friends so obviously have good taste ;)

The Honeymoon

A beautiful 3 week long trip made up of lots of different elements – a music festival in Croatia, some romantic drama in the Amalfi coast and then some city trippin in Rome and Naples!

Memorable Moments

Cammy’s face when he saw me walk down the aisle – and how nervous we both were when I got to him! Him getting flung up on all his boys’ shoulders, my sister’s emotional outbursts, getting photographed under a beautiful weeping willow, the best man’s fairly long, fairly sweary but hilarious speech, the music, the food (especially the tasty brunch we had the next day) and, all of the love we received – just such an amazing day!

Advice For Other Couples

If you’re Scottish – don’t forget to play Auld Lang Syne at the end (major oops on our part)! And 100% do a full weekend thing if you can – it goes by far too quickly so you want to have as long as possible celebrating with all your loved ones! Oh and make sure to make time for yourselves as a couple throughout the day, it’s such a beautiful time so grabbing little moments with your new spouse is magical.
